SusHi Tech Tokyo 2026 draws 750 startups as Tokyo doubles down on global founders

Asia’s largest innovation conference functioned as a 60,000-person deal room, with a new cohort of government-backed global startups and dozens of pavilions.

Tokyo’s flagship SusHi Tech Tokyo 2026 ran April 27–29 at Tokyo Big Sight, drawing roughly 750 startup exhibitors — about 400 of them international — and an estimated 60,000 attendees, TechCrunch reported. Organizers used an AI matching app to pre-book some 10,000 facilitated business meetings.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government debuted a cohort of 45 “SusHi Tech Global Startups,” growth-stage Japanese companies given a dedicated pavilion, while 62 partner firms including Sony, Google, Microsoft and Mizuho hosted open-innovation exhibits.

The scale underscores a deliberate state-backed bet: Tokyo is positioning itself as a regional hub for cross-border startup matching and overseas expansion.

For international investors, the event offers concentrated access to vetted, government-supported Japanese startups actively seeking foreign capital and partners.
